RCIA The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults is the order for initiation into the Catholic Church.

For the unbaptized, the RCIA gradually uncovers the story of God’s salvation; the mystery of Jesus’s life, death and resurrection; and the workings of the Holy Spirit through the Catholic Church. Formation consists of four stages – with accompanying rituals to mark each stage – and follows the Church’s liturgical year.

For baptized Christians who seek to enter into full communion with the Church, the RCIA includes faith formation, rites and pastoral practices.

For baptized Catholics who have not received the sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist, the RCIA includes a more complete faith formation and mentions pastoral practices to become a fully initiated Catholic.

Full initiation then normally occurs within the Easter Vigil Mass.                Archdiocese of Omaha
